Back at Billie H

Our first go to to Billie H was one in every of final yr’s highlights and our lengthy awaited return this week upped the ante much more – this can be a excellent wine bar and restaurant – the meals is beautiful and the wine listing brilliantly put collectively; prime it off with nice atmosphere and educated and useful employees and they’re on a winner.

On this event we forwent the engaging eating room and decamped to the al fresco backyard space operating alongside one aspect – shady and with greenery rising up the wall of the adjoining constructing it’s a most interesting spot.

The wine record has an ideal number of wines throughout areas, varieties and nations and we started with a glass of Singlefile Methode Traditionelle for Lady FWO – aromas of lemon blossom and toasted bread, with crisp, elegant lemon flavours – whereas for me a bracing glass of icy chilly Aurora Amontillado – nutty aromas and a palate which has parts of toasted almonds and bitter orange, with an extended salty end – very refreshing certainly.

Following these aperitifs, we went for a bottle of 2017 Low Boi Riesling from Porongurup – lime cordial and lemon blossom aromas, a refined palate with talc and chalky nuances, vibrant citrus flavours and high quality acid supporting the sustained end. Lovely wine.

We now turned our consideration to the meals which we fondly remembered from earlier than – and weren’t dissatisfied.

A house made cruskit with a smear of smoked tomato paste, a slice of juicy tomato and white anchovies draped throughout – crunchy, smoky, salty, savoury – pleasant appetiser to kick issues off.

A vibrant image on the plate was subsequent – candy, roasted pink grapes, crisp, bitter radicchio, dots of creamy, salty labneh and a touch of chive infused oil – sensational.

Then carpaccio of thinly sliced Geraldton kingfish – juicy slices circling the plate, drizzled with oil and lemon, and dotted with tiny mounds of delicate tangy mustard – merely scrumptious.

A salad of cucumber, pecans, sliced pink chilli and peppery roquette, circled by creamed avocado – crisp, crunchy, recent, lovely, refreshing mixture.

And lastly, wombok char grilled and topped with a gloriously creamy, velvety ginger beer butter – the butter slipperily sliding over the blackened cabbage, one other prime class dish.

Wow – the meals was as we recalled – excellent. Not a lot room left however we thought one thing candy and small to conclude and the trio of treats appealed – a spherical of cardamom flavoured jelly, a sq. of wealthy chocolatey halva and some darkish chocolate coated almonds was a satisfying finale.

Billie H continues to set the tempo amongst wine bar eating places – it’s simply excellent.
