Back at Yefsi

It has been a yr since Yefsi opened and it was time for a re-visit – it’s within the constructing in Newcastle Street that homes Attika Hotel above it and has since our preliminary go to, has gained a liquor licence. Inside the blue and white tiles and a brightly colored wall portray of scenes of the Greek Islands livens up the area. At the second solely open for breakfast and lunch, night openings are deliberate within the not too distant future.

The wine record is sort of small, in reality very small – two whites, one by the glass, two reds, once more one by the glass, and a glowing. The boss informed us he was maintaining it uncomplicated, however he did say he would look at including a rosé (at our suggestion) so that might be welcome – no BYO, both.

We opted for a bottle of Cabernet Merlot from Rare Earth, the grapes sourced from Margaret River. Medium bodied, plums and blackcurrant aromas, mulberries and chocolate on the palate.

The lunch menu presents a variety of mezze sort dishes and a choice of bigger serves – we started with one of many smaller – hummus with pita, after which went on to a few from the mains alternatives, each dishes we now have had beforehand and loved – Revithokeftedes and grilled squid.

The hummus had a touch of paprika sprinkled over giving it a pleasant contact of smoky flavours, together with these of the hummus – an excellent mild starter.

First up – chickpea fritters –once more crisp skinned, nutty and earthy filling – Greek salad with a big rectangle of feta having delight of place, squeaky grilled haloumi and pita. An excellent sized feast of Greek meals which could be added to with a skewer of grilled meat or greens – we handed on this event. – very gratifying.

The squid was as we recalled – superbly tender however retained a lovely al dente texture, with a light-weight char and was served with peppery rocket, onion, salty, creamy yoghurt and a sprinkle of minimize chilli so as to add a zipper and zing. And it was a scorching chilli, too! Excellent.

A complementary plate of fried saganaki – crumbly and creamy contained in the crisped pores and skin – with a squeeze of lemon, helped us by means of the stays of our wine.

We have been happy to return to Yefsi, good high quality Greek impressed meals, nice surrounds, pleasant employees – and if that rosé, all to the great.
